In the Inland Empire, healthcare reform will expand coverage to more than 550,000 low-income residents, including adults with or without children.
In January 2014, eligible residents can get coverage through either the Medi-Cal Expansion or the Health Exchange, called Covered California. Most who do not have health insurance will pay a penalty.
Healthcare reform will ensure people with a pre-existing condition are not denied for coverage. Since September 23, 2010, children under the age of 19 with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied for coverage. In 2014, this part of the law will be extended to adults.
